I live 20 feet from Jo's, but due to terrible service on my first visit (I went with my mom and grandmother) I have abstained from visiting again for almost the entire duration of my lease.
My first experience at Jo's involved approximately six female employees standing around behind the counter talking loudly throughout our whole meal. My antipasti salad was mediocre (mainly due to the presence of the slimy cold roasted red pepper). After finishing up, the three of us patiently waited for our bill for over 15 minutes, unaware that we were expected to pay at the front. I understand each restaurant has its individual procedures and would've been completely sympathetic if it was a busy lunch hour, however... We were the only ones in the restaurant! The servers/ cashiers/ whatever seemed annoyed and pointedly ignored our obvious confusion until my grandmother finally hobbled up to the counter to ask for the bill. She received several eyerolls and an agitated "when you're done you're supposed to pay at the FRONT!". For such a cute corner bistro it was truly weird.
In a moment of extreme desperation and hunger a few days ago my boyfriend and I returned to find amazing crab bisque and heavenly chicken salad sandwich, all served by a shy, polite college boy. I move in two weeks and now regret that the first visit to Jo's turned me off for so long...
