| - I had Ovarian Stage 3C Feb., 2013, and had debulking surgery and chemo. Went in remission for over a year, and was recently diagnosed with a recurrence. Cancer Treatment Centers of America slammed the door in my face. They are a for profit business and only accept those who can afford them. They don't accept Medicare at all. I work for the state and have great insurance - Providence PEBB - and CTCA denied me because they demanded a letter from Providence stating they will pay CTCA's higher rates. They put me on a week long emotional roller coaster. It was awful. Nothing like what they advertise on TV.
I was assigned a CTCA "patient empowerment" specialist last Thursday who was very nice and wanted to help me and said she could get me an appointment at the Phoenix facility this coming Monday, which would work perfectly with our travel plans. She said they pay for travel (air fare) and there's a one time $75 lodging fee. I would have a three day evaluation. Then we would get a rental car and drive 4 hours to my folks in time for Thanksgiving and finish our vacation, and fly home from Palm Springs. It sounded too good to be true.
For a week they toyed with me. I was being told by my "empowerment" specialist I could go. Then I couldn't, and back and forth. I was so overwhelmed and stressed out I lost sleep, I got so sick, lost two and a half days of work, and cried a lot as the time ran out to make my Monday appointment. I finally called my insurance and they said good to go. I was so elated until the news traveled back to Phoenix's CTCA financial counselor. He would not allow me to go until his demands were met. I went over his head only to learn he was getting his marching orders from his supervisor. Thankfully, today the horrible torment ended when I realized the truth.
They only want to help those who pad their pockets. Don't believe what you see on TV.
Funny part, or rather the stupid part on my behalf, is that I read the reviews and the same thing happened to others. And while that bothered me a lot, I was so focused on their Wholistic approach and so sure they would accept my Cadillac insurance, I called anyway.
I hope my experience saves someone else from the stress and turmoil that will most assuredly come. If they don't take my amazing insurance that covered me so well in 2013, what insurance do they accept? Good luck if you dare try.
As for me, I've heard great things about the Hoxey Biomedical Center in Tijuana. Heading out tomorrow to go check it out.
