I'm a big fan of Mcghie's and I'm reviewing from a newb snowboarder experience...starting with rentals and then a snowboard boot purchase..
Service - Snowboard Rentals: A late night drinking decision to get snowboarding lessons got me to Mcghie's the next morning. The rental staff was very friendly and got me ready to go with boots and boards. They measured me for my board asked my skill level, and if I was "conventional or goofy" rider. They got me processed quickly and all the gear worked. However most importantly, everything FIT WELL on the notorious beginner slopes which enhanced my lesson that day.
Service - Snowboard Boots: 3 weeks after: the rental, one lesson, a Christmas snowboard, it was time to buy some Snowboard boots. "Jim" (glasses) was awesome! He measured my foot sitting down and then standing up to show me my true size of 8 1/2. He explained that my toes should be up against the boot (but not scrunched) when standing straight up. When I bend my knees forward (riding my snowboard), my toes should still be barely touching the boot without my ankle raising. After trying on two pairs, I found the right size and it felt great. Jim was very patient, friendly and moved with a sense of urgency as he was working with me and another customer simultaneously. Great stuff here...
Their inventory of Snowboard equipment and accessories can make it a one stop shop if you're looking to gear up or rent for the day. The prices are similar to what you find on the interwebs but the service is what really makes this place great. You can ask a lot of questions and never felt like you're being talked down to. Check them out if you're a snowboarder newb like me and every skill level above. See ya on the slopes! =)
