| - My first experience with Beaver Choice was at the old Tempe Location. The new location is larger.
Diamond in the rough and well worth the drive!! is still my thought on Beaver choice.
Having had a Swedish Grandmother i have had Swedish delicacies my entire life and was passed down some amazing recipes .
Beaver choice is spot on authentic home-style cooked meals, but, I digress....
The exterior at first blush, may make you have second thoughts about going in ,i do not mean this in a bad way i just mean it is not fancy, nor is the interior- a few framed oil paintings this place screams minimalist. Do not let this fool you into thinking that the food will not impress you ....it will(unless you do not care for dill)
My son and I have eaten at both locations a few times and he is now hooked on the Swedish Meatballs (Kottbullar). An order of the meatballs consists of 6 meatballs, and let me tell you these are fluffy and juicy with a delectable cream sauce and just the perfect amount of seasoning. You get a choice of 3 sides with your meal ,and he always gets the dill mashed potatoes, broccoli, and marinated beans ( like a 3 bean salad)
This is not a small plate of food, this is like hungry man giant sized food !!!!
I love The Schnitzel ( TO DIE FOR ) laden with Porcini mushroom sauce. For sides i love the thyme potatoes, sauerkraut (amazing) and pickled beets ( so good) .again this is so much food you will have most of it wrapped up so you can bring it home.
Do not expect artisan looking food or fancy presentation, this is home-style cooking, and no light hand is used with flavoring, and especially with the dill.
This place is totally laid back ...i mean way laid back ,you feel like your at a relatives house sitting in the kitchen after a long journey and they have made a feast for you .
Also expect to wait for your food a bit ...this is a small family operation with a good crowd of fans coming in to chow down ..
Mom and pop operation with off the hook Swedish and Polish fare .
PRICE ; Totally reasonable at less than 15 bucks per plate, but as i said we are talking hella food!! ,well prepared authentic home-style cooking.
worth every penny !
Take-out : yes they have take out ( which is awesome, since now i have someone who wants these meatballs frequently )
Oh, And the cookies rock too !!! yes the beaver balls are mad good .
I have the number in my phone ...well worth the drive even for take out.
Owners are top notch!
