I saw Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire at the Axis last night. I've seen them together at two other venues before so I have a standard of comparison and The Axis just did not do them justice. If this was your first time seeing these two legendary bands together, you may want to try again somewhere else. We were seated in the center about 4 rows from the back which has a good view of the stage but the sound was terrible. The speakers above our heads sounded crackly like the volume was too loud, which it was. I was wishing I had some earplugs and some Tylenol. There are huge tv screens behind the stage which allow you to have a better view of the performers but most of the time they had a garish light show going and there were strobe lights intermittently flashing into the audience, adding to my head ache. My migraine prone husband had to close his eyes against the lights. These two bands always give an awesome performance and do not need these unpleasant distractions. The sound mixing was off too and I'm not sure who is responsible for that but sometimes the vocalists' mikes were too loud and sometimes too low. I am giving the venue three stars only because of the free parking in the Miracle Mile parking structure (get there early though because traffic is not directed very efficiently) and because the concert lets out into the mall where there are plenty of places to eat even late at night before you join the crowd trying to exit the parking area.
