| - This is a revised review.
I continue to have a love/hate relationship with this Bar, so I will attempt to be objective with this review.
The Ups:
1. It's the closest and only bar within walking distance of my house
2. I run into nice random people here all the time.
3. They rotate their drafts regularly
4. Free Wi-fi so I can watch my movie homework at the Bar
5. Roomie event space for groups
6. Outdoor seating
The Downs:
1. Overpriced Canned Beers
2. The original opening menu has been revised and they took off my favorite Caesar Salad [it came with awesome strips of anchovies]
3. There is an imbalance in staffing [more about this later]
4. You are oft forgotten by the Bartending staff because they know you come to hang out
5. Will give another try but the mixed drinks are awful
6. The food is hit or miss even if you continue to order the same thing [the attempt to substitute Kale for Spinach was a fail, the jerk wings vary in spicing and the meatball sliders have an overly intense seasoning]
The improved:
1. The Bartending skills and attentiveness has improved since they opened [between replacing the bar or training them to be better]
The latest:
The reason I knocked the rating down to 2 stars rather than a more appropriate three or 4 is and remains the service. Personally, I am an efficiency freak [duh - CMU ops]. So I cannot help but comment on last Sunday's experience:
I visited on a Sunday at around 4:30pm so it must have been right when shifts were switching. The place was fairly empty as there were no sports games on TV and it was pretty cold outside, but that did not stop them from having 2 bartenders, the regular hostess and not 1, 2 but 4 waitresses on staff. Of these 4, only 1 of them was actually hustling and working. The remainder were BS-ing at the Bar with what I presumed to be the owner [recalling from memory once being introduced at the beginning of Social's existence] and it was almost unidentifiable whether their shifts were over or not. If they were on, you gained a sense of abandonment as a customer, who would routinely look around for refills on beers, if you were off shift, take off your aprons! Now I understand about giving your boss attention but still.
Same with the Bartenders, my regularly seen bartender would drift back and forth between the kitchen and within the Bar, however ignored my need to refill by Beer. It took a while to catch the attention of the second one, who stared at my 15% full glass and never bothered to ask if I wanted a refill. Now, I was doing homework, however I would have enjoyed my black and white movie more with an additional dark beer or two.
Naturally, will continue to come back from the given "Ups" listing above. But I seriously hope they smooth out their regular experiences.
