| - Yea, yea.. I know it's a chain, but I've always loved our House of Blues in Cleveland.
I can't tell you how much I hate being a number in a huge arena full of people. It just disconnects you from the music. At the HOB in Cleveland, it's a big enough venue for great bands to play at, but small enough to feel uber intimate. Talk about the best of both worlds.
I've never been one to push my way through a sweaty, stinky crowd just to get close to the stage. I'm all about the sound, the connection, not the "star" factor of being close to the performer. What I love about HOB is that you can sit up on the balcony and still be super close to the show. It's a better view up there with better sound and I can sit down when I want. I mean, that's insanely better than being pressed up against some hot, sticky stranger who's probably going to start a mosh like a total jack-ass.
The balcony level also has bathrooms, two bars and a cocktail waitress for your excessive drinking pleasure. I mean, it's pretty much guaranteed that if you're boozing during a show you're going to have to get up to pee at least a few times. Lucky for you there's easy access to beers and the potty.
Speaking of the bathrooms, like other yelpers have mentioned I too have an issue with the attendants. I appreciate that it's always super clean in there. But, if I'm not making eye-contact with you and reaching for my own paper towel, please don't come at me saying, "Here you go, ma'am... no, look here, I have a towel for you." It makes me feel uncomfortable that I have no cash on me to tip you with. I don't want you working for free and I'm more than capable of grabbing my own towel, thank you.
Also, be prepared for the on-slot of teenagers who fill the seats for shows. You cannot escape them or the parents they've dragged with them. Sometimes I just want to buy these folks a shot for having to suffer through a concert with 10 teens.
Other than that, go enjoy a show and grab some dinner before hand if you're running behind. There are lots of great restaurants up and down E4th to suit any palette.
