  • I would never recommend this practice to anyone. As background, my husband and I moved to the Pittsburgh area right after my first trimester, so it was a very stressful time and we were going to Advanced Women's Care of Pittsburgh for our first appointment in our new town. We were coming separately from our offices and he got there about 30 minutes early and asked if he could fill out any paperwork and the lady at the front desk was very short with him, told him no and to sit (keep in mind he's my husband and we have the same insurance and he's aware of my address and date of birth) and then closed this sliding window she had between her and the waiting room. In the meantime, I am rushing to get over there and I walk into the building at exactly my appointment time and get to the floor I think the office is on, but can't find it, so I call my husband and he gives me directions - meanwhile I hear the lady in the background saying "is that your wife?! where is she!?" This office was in the hospital with several different "floor twos" - which isn't indicated on their website and which no one told me over the phone. Anyway, so my husband helps me get there and I walk in about 5 minutes late. I'm clearly already frazzled and the lady opens her sliding window and goes "are YOU my new patient? I was giving you 2 more minutes and then I was going to reschedule you." For context, there was only one other person in the waiting room besides my husband, but regardless... I was a little taken aback by her hostility, but I start filling out forms and then as I'm doing that, she's like "you should've been here 15 minutes early to fill out forms" - another side note, I faxed all my medical records to them a week before. Anyway, this woman keeps lecturing me and simultaneously asking me questions very rudely, for example: "(*holding my driver's license up with her eyebrow raised*) Is THIS really your address?" (because we had just moved a couple of weeks prior, I hadn't gotten a new ID yet and it still had my Virginia address). At that point I was on the verge of tears and I knew they'd need a urine sample so I asked if I could go do that and finish the paperwork, so I went back to the bathroom and cried a little bit, but I tried to get myself together and remind myself we'd get to see the baby if I could just pull it together. So I stop crying and splashed some water on my face and walked out to the waiting area. The lady who was rude to me is standing at the end of the hall by the waiting room holding my IDs out to me and she sees me and pulls them back and says "did I make you cry?" and I said "yeah you did" and she goes "well that wasn't my intention" and I just shrug and try to walk past her and she goes "you're just lucky the other doctor wasn't here because he would've had more to say about it" and at that point I lost it! I just started crying, grabbed my IDs and said "well if that's the sort of practice this is, then I don't think we should be here" and opened the door and my husband and I left. As we were leaving, I saw the person I presume to be the doctor standing in the background watching this whole thing. No one stepped in to admonish this front desk clerk and no one called me afterwards to check about what went wrong. If they really couldn't see me because I was 5 minutes late, she could've just said "hey we have a really tight schedule today, is there a time I can reschedule you?" and I would've been a little bummed but it would've been completely reasonable. Instead she berated and lectured a frazzled pregnant lady who had never been to the office before - that was literally my first impression of them. So yeah sufficed to say, we found another doctor (West Penn OBGYN, for anyone looking for a great practice). It was a terrible experience, but I'm glad it happened early on rather than like when I'm about to deliver because that would've been so much worse. Please save yourself the heartache and find another practice!
