I strolled in to Katana on a Monday evening trying to satiate my sushi craving at a place I've often driven past but never stopped in to try. The place was empty with the exception of a couple of small groups in the upper dining area.
I ordered the maki platter... the waitress brought my water and included miso soup over, and that was the last I saw of her. The soup was OK. It had a different flavor to it than I've ever tasted when it comes to miso soup... it wasn't bad, just different. I couldn't put my finger on it.
The sushi chef delivered my maki platter, which was a salmon roll (8 pcs), spicy tuna roll (6 pcs), and california roll (6 pcs) -- a pretty great deal for $13 and some change. I ate all but about 4 pieces... The rice was a little dried out, maybe because they weren't busy and it wasn't overly fresh. There was also a huge difference in the size of these rolls. The salmon roll was about the size of a quarter and maybe 1/2 inch thick while the other two rolls were more of your standard sushi size. Personally I still think it was a great deal (bigger isn't always better), but I left here feeling like something was off about the whole experience. Maybe it wasn't the food and instead was that I never saw my waitress again even after my water had been empty for 10 minutes, or that I had to get up and ask for my check after sitting there for another 10 minutes while the hostess texted on her phone. I'm used to a friendly, eager to please atmosphere at the sushi places I'm a regular at and I just didn't get that vibe here at all.
