| - I flew with them to St. Croix recently. The flight down arrived early, which was great, and in general everyone was very friendly and the whole operation worked pretty well. The flight back was not full so we were encouraged to move around and get more comfortable and ended up getting a window seat we otherwise wouldn't have gotten. I do have a few review-worthy criticisms...
The flight back from CLT waited on the runway an unusually long time for luggage to be loaded, and then when we arrived at Logan we waited an unusually long time for the jetway to be connected to the front door so we could get off. By the time we got our luggage, the subway had shut down and we had to pay $30 for a taxi. I don't know whether these delays were the fault of the airport or airline, but they did impact my travel experience.
It was very odd at STX, they seem to have no checkin kiosks. Even though we had printed out boarding passes out at our hotel before going to the airport, the clerks printed another copy for us. That seemed a bit inefficient.
On balance, I think I can't complain, for some reason our checked bag fees on the return trip were completely waived, and the clerk accepted our bags even though they were a few pounds overweight.
They do have an unusual boarding priority, which lets people who pay for seat choice or who check in online board earlier than others. That's another contingency to consider when comparing fares - if you want your party to sit together and the flight is already largely booked, or you want certain rows, you'll need to pay extra.
One thing that did really annoy me was the commercial for some credit card linked to their rewards program that the flight attendants did over the intercome in flight. Talk about your captive audience. 8(
I usually fly Jet Blue. One thing I missed was knowing where the plane was, so I could put a name to the landscape features passing by outside. There's no in-flight entertainment system (which is fine with me, I have plenty of magazines and computer files to catch up on) but you also can't use any GPS devices during the flight. There probably isn't any real safety impact to doing this while cruising, so I hope the airline can work through the certification process with the FAA and FCC to start allowing this stuff. (They've already got wifi on board, though you have to pay for it.) On one leg I also needed to wipe a thin film of grime off the window to get a clear view. Looks like they didn't use Windex or didn't clean their bucket water often enough?
