I am here to offer constructive suggestions to the Carl T Hayden Medical Center. My spouse was and is still having frequent urination and severe pain all over and we called the nurse help line on a Thursday. We went to the ED on Thursday afternoon and spent 8 hours in the ED; he was diagnosed with diverticulitis and given antibiotics and sent home. We left the VA after midnight. The next morning we get a call to return to the VA. We were given the impression that my spouse would be admitted and they would be waiting for us but this was not the case. At 6:50PM after spending 8 hours in ED he was taken to a room. Then his room was changed three times between Friday evening at 6:50PM upon admission and Sunday 2PM when I picked him up. I kept calling the operator and trying to track him down. He has FTD and he told everyone not to do anything with consulting me. He was taken off his medication for FTD and sent home. The 10 days he was off his FTD medication was a disaster and a nightmare. The decision to take him off his FTD medication showed a lack of respect and no dignity for my spouse or me. The VA could have called the psychiatrist in the ED for a new order of a suitable medication. I had to travel back down to the VA with my spouse to get a medication (with 0 effectiveness for the FTD) that he could take while on the antibiotic.
