Yesterday was my first time visiting a Nordstrom..... And it wasn't great. Everything was fine as I was looking at clothing on the upper level of the store. I eventually found 2 tops I liked and then proceeded to the dressing room near the Brandy Melville and Topshop clothing. I walked into the dressing room, waited a few seconds to see if anyone would help me, and then walked into a dressing room with the door open when no one did. I spent a good 5-10 minutes in there and decided what I wanted to purchase. As I was about to leave someone knocked on the door and when I responded she said "that's someone else's room". I was confused but was already finished so I walked out, and the sales associate smirked at me and she let someone else it. I walked to the entrance and as the sales associate walked by I said "I thought it was self-serve". She told me that apparently since there was a dress on the door that meant that was someone else's room. I then told her there was no one at the dressing room entrance when I walked in so how would I know that and she just quipped "sorry". She walked away, didn't offer me my own room or even start standing by the entrance to help other customers avoid the confusion. I didn't know you could leave a dressing room for 10 minutes and then make an employee kick another customer out when you wanted it back. If you want to shop at Nordstrom in the future I guess you need to read up on their policies beforehand unless you want to be forced out of a dressing room.
