| - I still think Lotus' poached salmon is among the best I've ever had, and I'm still a huge fan of their drunken noodles and roast duck curry. But I've decided to update and dock another star because their service has consistently gotten worse and worse over the years, and the reality is there are far more quality Thai options in the Vegas valley now than there were even just a few years ago - including (or is that especially) those opened by past Lotus employees.
My most recent negative service interaction involved our waiter losing one of our leftovers that we'd asked to get boxed up (we had three leftover dishes, and the waiter only gave us two back in boxes). I was particularly annoyed because I had only ordered that dish intending to take most of it home - we'd barely touched it. A different waiter came by, apologized, and told us that they would cook up a completely new dish for us to take. Honestly, at that point I'd have preferred if they'd just knocked it off the bill, but I decided to accept their offer and wait for the new dish.
But when we got home, we found out that the "completely new dish" was barely a 1/4 portion of the original. I don't even know if they cooked a new dish at all or what - maybe they even just gave us someone else's leftovers that they were going to throw away. In any case, it just left a really bad taste in our mouths. If you're going to try to make up for your service failure, you'd better do it right, or you're just making it even worse.
Ultimately it's becoming tough to justify the trip to Lotus, and honestly even 3* might be generous - the service has really gotten that bad. Sure, there was a time when Lotus was the standout Thai option in Las Vegas, but it's certainly not the case anymore and I get the feeling that Lotus manages to stay busy only because they're riding on their past fame.
