  • If it were possible to give negative stars, Frank Caliendo would receive my vote. Thinking back, I should have known that this show was going to be terrible... but, as they say, hindsight's 20/20. Hint #1 that Frank Caliendo was going to be BAD: The locals discount on the MGM website makes this show one of its cheapest. Of course, this hint is a sneaky one because there are several shows (incl. Love and the Lion King -- which have garnered critical praise) that also appear as eligible for discounts. Still, no show is as cheap as this one. Hint #2 that Frank Caliendo was going to be BAD: I called a week in advance to get tix for the show and was told by the reservationist at the 702 number featured on the Monte Carlo website that all of the least expensive seats in the house had already been sold out. My man, who called on the other line when he heard this news was told that, in fact, all 9 requested seats in the least expensive section were available. Not sure if this hint operates against FC himself or the MGM reservationists but, at the end of the day, the economy sucks and we locals have a choice about where to go.... there's no need to dupe the public for a buck... especially when that public yelps to save others from a similar experience. Hint #3 that Frank Caliendo was going to be BAD: We walked into a theater on a Sat. night to find the place more than 3/4 empty. As it turned out, we were moved into much more expensive seats because the theater was so empty .... thanks a lot Mr. Reservation Guy. So, enough with the hints... now, it's time for why FC was BAD. Reason #1 that Frank Caliendo was BAD: FC's jokes were old, stale, and tired. He relied mostly on bits from Clinton, Madden, Bush, and some Obama was thrown in for good measure. He also spent a lot of time doing Charles Barkley's impression of "TRBL" -- while at first, the impression was fairly good... the use of the phrase for what seemed like the next 20 minutes made a decent joke (you guessed it)... terrible. Reason #2 that Frank Caliendo was BAD: 1/2 of our party kept checking watches to see what time the show was going to be over. Reason #3 that Frank Caliendo was BAD: No matter what he says, Frank does not appreciate audience participation. In fact, beware if he encourages you to participate. I won't go any further into this point because, hopefully, enough of what I've written convinces you not to bother wasting your money to see Frank Caliendo's show. But, if you happen to come upon free tickets, consider yourself warned. My advice to locals and tourists who are looking into purchasing tickets for a show: stay away from Frank Caliendo. You will certainly waste your money and leave the theater wondering why you wasted 1.5 hours. My advice to the Monte Carlo: Please get yourselves another headliner -- someone who is actually funny -- and also some new reservationists. My advice to Frank Caliendo: You give other comedians a bad name and you're just not funny. The only reason that FC was given any stars: FC's fantastic band. I only wish they were given more stage time...
