| - This clinic is pretty indicative of healthcare in Quebec: it's free, it's ok, it could be better, but I'll take it for lack of better options. The fact that I have a GP makes me feel a little bit like I won the lottery, in this province with a family doctor shortage, so I'll suck it up and deal with the clinic.
The clinic itself is fine. It's your standard no frills medical office, filled with lots and lots of chairs in the waiting room and people waiting in them. It's the organization of the place that really gets me. The staff are really hit or miss: sometimes they are super friendly and helpful, other times it feels like I'm interrupting their day to say . . . make an appointment with my doctor. Oftentimes when I call in I get transferred around between multiple people . . . just to make an appointment. I've had issues with getting prescriptions renewed, and have been told "Oh, you had the pharmacist fax it in last week? The law says your doctor has 30 days to respond, so sit tight! We're not even going to look at your file in this case to see if it was received." What? I've never experienced that anywhere else. If you arrive at the wrong time, you can easily be waiting in the check-in lineup for 15 minutes.
So I wouldn't say avoid, given the scarcity of healthcare in this province, but rather proceed with caution.
