  • Is it the only "EDM" (can't believe this is being thrown around as a term for house music, but alas) club in PGH? Pretty much. But even if that's what you like to get down to, I'd recommend skipping this place. - The sound system is laughable at best and not able to produce any sort of engaging degree of bass for most of the songs played earlier in the night. It is no surprise that there is generally no one in this club until it gets closer to midnight. - During peak hours, you're essentially going to just here the same tired lackluster progressive/electro house songs (ones that are so played out we have soccer moms listening to them as they drop their kids off @ school). The resident DJ, Eric Cohen, not only lacks the ability to incorporate music outside of progressive/electro genre into the peak hour sets, but there's no degree of creativity to his sets that extend much beyond the top charts. Yet this is not marketed as a 'top 40' club, they may as well just use a jukebox of the beatport charts and save money on the DJ. - The layout of the club and distribution of bottle service tables encourages separation rather than allowing people to actually socialize. That is to say that tables are largely separated from one another and the club ends up looking empty (especially in terms of the dance floor) and lacking any sort of cohesive vibe. It's only when the crowd is drunk that you''ll see fist pumping that you could only compare to a cheesy rendition of jersey shore. No real dancing here, folks (not like the peak hour music is conducive to it). - The crowd seems largely older and mature, which is fine, but given the largely lackluster music (except for occasionally talented headliners, which are few and far in between, only to have their nights tainted by poorly crafted opening sets by the residents), it's difficult to see the appeal of this club over a place like Diesel where at least you'll have a consistently younger and good looking crowd (and sometimes they'll actually drop better house music tunes there!) So, this club just lends itself to absolutely nothing more than mediocrity and would deserve not even a single star if it were possible given both management and the resident DJ's lack of interest in improving anything. A good house music venue can promote itself well, hire DJs with innovative abilities to read the crowd and craft both an engaging and accessible set that can appeal to life-long house-heads and even those who are used to getting down to hip hop. But if all you're going to do is drop lackluster tracks from the charts that require obscene levels of intoxication for the crowd to then accomplish nothing more than fist pumping, I wish you best of luck Static.
