  • Hoover Dam is a MUST DO when visiting Sin City! Although Hover Dam is a 40-45 minute drive from Vegas the views make it all worth it. I was in Sin City for a special weekend vacation and Hoover Dam was on the list of things to do. I was totally excited as I have been hearing so much about it but never had the time to go experience it. The drive up there is BEAUTIFUL! The Hoover Dam is one of those things that have to be seen to be believed. I had read about it, studied it a little and still was blown away by the structure itself. It is beautiful to see and has been a National Historic Landmark since 1937. Walking on the top of it was a moving experience when I thought of all the men who worked on it. The Hoover Dam and its history are fascinating, much better than I expected. What an amazing accomplishment. The guides are so knowledgeable and there is so much to learn about the Colorado River, the building of the dam, the interaction between the rivers, water and electricity and so on. It is a beautiful, grand and massive structure and a work of art and engineering. This is a well-known icon of American engineering and design not to mention the site of so many iconic films (Superman & Transformers among others). As you wind into the Grand Canyon you're faced with this monument of human creativity and endurance; it's hard not to marvel at the huge efforts both of the people who built it and the natural forces the dam holds back. The tour at the Dam was awesome and included a 20-minute walk across the Mike O'Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge that overlooks the dam on the Colorado River side. YES the views are AWESOME!!! After that we was able to continue to the Hoover Dam and take a great tour outside before doing the inside power plant tour. The surrounding area around the Dam was beautiful. I was able to take pictures but I was so into my tour I forgot to take pictures of the inside. The tour inside of the dam to tour the power plant was also very interesting. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting in the area!
