  • The Tropicana is one of the oldest hotels on the Las Vegas strip. It's usually priced attractively, and its location is pretty solid (close to the airport, on the strip, across the street from MGM Grand, Excalibur, and New York New York). On the other hand, the building is definitely showing its age, the public areas REEKS of tobacco smoke, doesn't have restaurants that are well regarded, and the Club Tower is literally a hike from the front lobby area. It's now technically a Doubletree Hotel (Hilton), so you can get their delicious warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in. However, in terms of elite Hilton Honors benefits, you don't get a whole lot. Even as a Hilton Diamond, the only benefit I got was a breakfast credit that basically covered a breakfast sandwich and coffee at the Starbucks near the lobby. It's definitely better than nothing, but on hindsight I would not stay at the Tropicana over the other hotels in Vegas just to leverage your hotel status. Fortunately for me, I had only booked 1 night at the Tropicana to begin with and moved over to the Delano for a much better experience.
