| - Is it possible to give a negative stars rating? Is so, Siena Campus certainly earned one. Went to the ER on 12/22 with a kidney stone. This is the first stone I ever had so the pain was pretty unbearable. Took 2.5 hours before they administered a pain shot. Unfortunately could not stand or sit so had to pace the hall for 2.5 hours. They did not offer any pain relief, just hollow "I'm sorry"s and excuses that they were busy. look I understand if you can't give me a room or a bed but can you give me something to at least take the edge off the pain. They have no viable triage system and ended up taking patients with mental issues or minor symptoms ahead of patients with serious issues.
Also they were pretty rude about it. Supposedly this was "Compassion Week" at Dignity Health, their parent company. How's this for compassion..."You picked the wrong night to come to the ER" as if I chose to release my stone. Also "Well if you can't sit or stand, I can't do anything for you"...and trust me, she didn't. The only 2 decent people I dealt with all night were the 2 emergency room nurses.
I understand that with Nevada Health Link the ERs are jammed up with drug seekers. But for real, Even after getting my CT scan, I still have to wait over an hour for a pain shot. By that time it took 4 morphine injections in an hour to get me reasonably pain free enough to go home.
In addition they administered them incorrectly, IM style. They should run them through an IV. That cuts down on the nausea. I know this because I actually worked in an emergency room in the Chicago area for a couple of years and we managed patients with acute onset of kidney stones much differently.
Lastly, the billed amount for a CT scan, 4 pain shots, a blood draw, and 5 hours of frustration was $12K!! I never even saw a doctor the whole time I was there, just a physician's assistant who was very unhelpful as well. Good thing my insurance got the bill knocked in half but seriously. I was out in SF this fall. Dignity has money to blow sponsoring rally towels at the Giants games then sticks it to their customers.
All in all was very disappointed but not unexpected. I had visited this ER a couple years ago with a friend and it was the same unorganized disaster. Also that night, one of my clients was in the ER too. It took him even longer and when I followed up with him regarding his visit a couple days later, he also stated they were rude to him and it was a complete joke. Next time, will go to De Lima campus. At least my one experience taking my child to the ER there was positive.
Also, don't take this review as a slam on the entire hospital. I have had friends and family receive scheduled care here and it was effective and efficient. Their ER however is a complete disaster. I would not recommend it to anyone not just looking for a place to go and die.
