A savior...
When staying Downtown our boys now have the Hydrant Club so we take them every chance we get! HC is a membership only dog park at the corner of 9th and Fremont.
Each dog applying for membership must have current and complete health records and must also be a legally licensed dog with the county. It helps if their chip number is also on their health records. Each pet parent must fill out a liability waiver for the property which is standard procedure with any pet sitting/doggy hotel etc.
Cathy the owner personally does an assessment for each dog using her boys as the "test givers". Our boys passed immediately passed with flying colors because they go to the doggie hotel and they attend meetups so they are very social dogs. The assessment fees are due that day.
After the assessment you will sit down with Cathy and she will explain the many things HC offers and you can see what will best work with your lifestyle. A mix of sitting and park membership, park unlimited membership. Park weekend only membership. It is custom tailored to your needs.
After agreeing to become a member (yeeeeeeaaaaaa!!!) you will be treated to welcome gifts such as a human/doggy water bottle, HC tshirts etc. You and your babies are welcomed with open arms. You are also given a key fob (electronic key) to come and go according to hours and days you have agreed to. For example we have unlimited park access so we can come and go as we please everyday from about 5am-10pm.
During the hours of approx. 8am-5pm (current May-June 2014 hours) there are certified dog handlers that are trained in all aspects including CPR. During that time they are active with doggy daycare hours. During that time you can opt to have your babies babysat or with your access you can come and go as you please according to your plan.
The park has lush grass and several play areas to keep the dogs active. The best part about the park? The many large trees that keep the park cool with shade.
I really like the pressure sensitive doggy water fountain. Basically its a special turf platform that the dogs can step on and the water fountain bowl turns on. One of my boys learned it quickly...and the other one has ADD so bad he doesn't have time to deal with it so he just waits until someone else turns it on :) One of my boys LOVES the jumping splash pool area. It's toooo cute to watch the pack jump for the next jumping water blob.
There is a dog sitting option complete with drop off and pick up! If you live near and are late home from work, your baby will be at home, safe, waiting for you :)
The HC also offers services such as vet appointment drops offs and pick ups, grooming shuttle service, just about anything your baby needs.
The unlimited monthly membership is not a bad price for the boys. It's a certain fee for one dog and then it adds on a smaller fee for the second dog. Cathy has near future plans to expand next door with and indoor space and also offer overnight boarding eventually! How cool is that?!
HC is also a meeting place for parents of the community of DTLV. You will meet like minded people who live and work in the area. It brings not only the pack together it brings a sense of family and community awareness that DTLV is blossoming into! There are lots of pack members who live in The Ogden for example. Away from HC you will then run into pack moms and dads at local restaurants and events!
In DTLV area and have dog babies? I would highly suggest meeting Cathy and our HC pack.
