| - I received a hand-me-down bike from friends that needed a little love, and I had intended on taking it along to one of Toronto's DIY bike-fix places to get it in good order. After being thwarted by those DIY places odd hours, I ended up at Bike Fix at Bathurst/Harbord - it's local to me and the main focus is on fixing bikes, not selling them. So I opted to get a tune-up and a little bit of extra love (some new handlebar grips and brake pads). Sean did a great job with only a couple of days turnaround in service.
I revisited Bike Fix this week as I was in the market for a new seat, and to follow up on some gear issues and handlebar height problems i'd been having. I purchased a seat and Sean installed it on the spot for me, as well as tinkering with my gears to get them going smoothly again - or, as smoothly as they can on this bike! I like that he will go the extra mile to get as much out of a reasonably crappy bike for his customers without trying to upsell to new parts and the like.
He has a small range of products adorning one wall of this small workshop - the basics, but you can get all you need (bike lights, locks, seats, baskets, and many MANY parts). Prices are very reasonable for products as well as services. My only reason to knock a star off is that it's cash only, and that tax isn't quoted as part of service charges (products are labeled at their tax-in value).
To get your bike looked after by someone with serious skills, a helpful nature and no-nonsense customer service is truly a treat, especially for a bike newbie like me! Without Bike Fix I wouldn't be getting around with such ease! If you're in the Annex, I would head here for absolute focus and a great deal.
