| - My husband and I were in Montreal recently and we met up with one of my "Yelp friends" from Montreal (our first time meeting in real life). He recommended Suite 88, so that's where we went. I had an herbal tea $2.75 and some chocolate. We bought a dark chocolate caramel bar and an 88% cocoa bar (the regular price is $4.85 for each 45g bar, but they were 50% off during our visit, so we paid $2.43 each).
The chocolate was definitely delicious. Now while I love chocolate, I will be the first to admit that I am not a chocolate connoisseur. You will never hear me say things like "I taste excessive tannins in this cocoa" or "It tastes like this chocolate was improperly tempered" quite frankly because I have no idea what those statements mean and they sound pretentious to me! All I know is that it tasted like a true artisan chocolate. It was a million times better than say Hersey Kisses and a few times better than chain-store specialty chocolate shops like Laura Secord and Purdy's.
As for my tea, they gave me a pot of hot water and a tea bag, so I'm not really going to write anymore about that. My husband had a vanilla hot white chocolate (it was about $7). While he liked it, he thought it was grossly overpriced.
My friend had one of their brownies and a mint hot chocolate (made with cream instead of milk). Let me tell you, his drink was so viscous! It looked way too rich for my tastes, but he seemed to enjoy it. The brownie looked really good. It was so gooey on the inside. They plated it and used melted chocolate to draw their logo on the plate. It looked pretty.
There's some seating in the store, but it looks primarily like a chocolate store. The ambience is not cozy or café-like.
Staff there were nice and answered questions that I had.
I don't know if I would go back there to hang out, but I would go back to buy some of their delicious chocolates :)
