| - The SW Steakhouse is located on the lower level of the Wynn Hotel and Casino. Hard to believe ten years have already passed since this property made its debut as a supposed competitor to the Bellagio for that best - in - class luxury property on the strip. The SW Steakhouse is Wynn's answer to Bellagio's Prime.
The view from your table is spectacular. You look out at a stunning waterfall with lush trees and flowers on each side. It is gorgeous yet it gives off a very private feel as the tables are spread out yet SW can accommodate parties of all sizes in its large dining facility.
The top notch service you expect from a 5 star restaurant is handled by a team of three servers for each table. A water glass never went unfilled yet we never felt they were being intrusive. I like that. There were several sommeliers on the floor to help with the extensive wine list (bottles priced more for celebrities like Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, David Beckham and Posh Spice who dined there last week or high rollers than common folk like us). We settled on a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon for 23 dollars each - a bargain on the wine per glass list as far as we were concerned.
The bread basket had mini torpedo rolls, bacon and cheddar muffins and pretzel bread sticks. The butter had a drizzle of olive oil and spices on top. I enjoyed the tasty torpedo roll, she enjoyed the pretzel stick. We each just had a taste.
First course was a split Caesar salad. The Parmesan crisp was incredible. The non- conventional dressing was heavy - perhaps a little overdressed. Still, it was a good choice.
For dinner we ordered the New York Bone In Dry Aged Strip. My lady ordered hers medium rare, mine was medium. Steaks arrived exactly as ordered. As advertised, they were extremely tender. Maybe the most tender steak we ever had. But beyond tenderness here is where we had a different opinion. I was very unhappy with the taste. It didn't stand out. Not for 68 dollars. Compared to steaks I've had at other fine steakhouses, this was a huge disappointment. Thankfully, the three in house sauces made it edible (I liked the more traditional of the choices) My lady disagreed and enjoyed hers very much and thought it tasted great.
We had mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus for our sides and they were more than enough to share.
We were too full to order desert.
There are so many steakhouses in Vegas. If we return, we will seek them out before returning to SW. They are seeking to be world class and in my opinion, they fall short.
