  • Here's the deal I know I shorted a wire when installing an aftermarket radio and now the radio doesn't turn on and on top of that the shifter is stuck in park. I already had the panels removed told them fuses were good so really I just needed them to pinpoint which wire it was that is shorted or being grounded. They charged me $44.99 + tax for diagnostics which I was okay with the thing that really to me is after an hour they called back claiming they need 2 hours worth of labor to pinpoint which wire it is estimate of $302. They told me that a wire is damaged and being grounded so they have to remove more parts and pinpoint where it is. I asked which wire is damaged and they said they don't know that is why 2 hours would pinpoint which wire it is. I went there to pick up the vehicle and asked what really they did because I knew that the harness was shorted and what the $44.99 consisted of. The rep said it was to check the harness and found it was shorted like okay I told them that the harness was shorted. He said that they noticed a wire was damaged and that the two hour labor would find the wire and rerun a new one okay I understand that. Then, I asked which cable was damaged and rep said he didn't know and asked other rep who called tech then came back in the store and said the tech doesn't know which cable is bad so the tech would just run a new ground wire into the harness. To me that does not make any sense to run a new ground wire if there already is one. The tech did not know which wire is damaged or being grounded so why was I told that a wire is damaged. I honestly don't get why I paid $49 and some change to be told exactly what I knew the harness is shorted. The reason I give them a 3 is because I understand charges need to be charged due to working at an auto shop before as a service advisor but when it comes to not really finding any answer for the customer I would never charge them a diagnostic.
