| - I'm just going to go ahead and put this out there now: THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES IN CLEVELAND.
Why? I don't even know where to start!
Well, first of all, as soon as you walk in, you feel like you're experiencing a part of Cleveland's history. Seriously. It's like you stepped into the city about 100 years ago right in the hustle and bustle of everything. What a fantastic feeling. I for one feel great knowing that some things never change. You feel like you are truly a part of the community. It's a place where you can come together and enjoy the different cultures and people who make up this fantastic city we all love.
Secondly, I can't think of a bad time to go. The busy Saturdays make me feel alive and part of a much greater purpose. You'll see families of all walks of life spending time together, learning and experiencing the city. The slower weekdays are a bit more relaxing and are a great for stopping for a quick, fresh lunch. Honestly, I don't mind the busy times or waiting in line. You usually meet the most interesting people in lines anyways!
Third, I love that you can actually interact with the people who MAKE the products they're selling! I've had the most interesting chats with vendors discussing their experiences. There are some amazing stories, let me tell you.
Most importantly, I love that you can support the locals of our communities and get the freshest produce and products all in one shot. It doesn't get much better than that. Yes, sometimes you're going to spend a little more than you would in a discount store, like Marc's or Aldi's. BUT a lot of the time, it's cheaper! Especially the vegetables and fruits.
My only warning is that when you buy produce at the West Side Market, eat it soon. They sell at the peak of freshness, so it might not last as long as your typical grocery store purchase.
One last tip: Many of the vendors now accept credit cards, but not all of them! Come prepared with both cash and credit for maximum purchasing abilities! :D
