| - I have naturally black hair, but earlier this year I decided to take the plunge into the prevalent ombre/balayage movement. Jumped right into that cliff like every other girl you know. Basic! After sifting through countless instagram accounts, I decided to put my hair follicle faith in Mayra. She's an independent contractor at this salon so it may be why she doesn't have many reviews.
Now don't get me wrong -- Mayra is nice and capable, but ultimately, she wasn't what I was looking for. Also, the 3 stars is simply an AVERAGE of the TWO visits I had here.
My first visit wasn't great. She asked if I could switch my appointment with another client last minute. I didn't mind, but I do remember feeling rushed during my first session, which left a bad impression. It took about 2, maybe 2 and a half hours, and no one even noticed I had my hair colored afterwards. I know it's a process to go blonde, but just how many and the rate of change, wasn't communicated clearly.
The second time around was a better experience and a little cheaper. She offered me water/coffee and felt less hurried. I showed her pictures again of what I wanted, but the end result wasn't close. It was a golden blonde, the brassy look I wanted to avoid. Again I know it's a process, but I've concluded Mayra is too conservative in terms of going lighter. Ashy tones aren't really her forte either. She might have gotten better, but who knows.
I've since then found a new stylist closer to my side of town who spends twice the amount of time on my hair (4-5 hours), but I come out satisfied with my hair color each time.
