| - What an incredible place. A true gem of Manchester, the Imperial War Museum North is how modern museums should be. It's full of space, interesting design and layouts, not to mention incredible exhibits.
The exhibition space is beautiful. Different zones merge into each other. The exhibits themselves blend artifacts, video and audio to really immerse you in the history of the second world war.
At certain times during the day the museum has a presentation with a twist. The main hall becomes a cavernous mix of images, light and sound, as video and pictures are projected onto the jutting and angular walls of the museum. It's brilliant, and truly original.
You can take a lift up to the top of the building, affording great views of the Lowry Theatre, Salford quays and Manchester as a whole. If you're scared of heights like me, then the walkway up on the viewing platform can feel a bit weird. It's steel, but full of holes so that you can see straight down into the deep space below you. I concentrated on the views outside and managed to do ok. I'd also suggest the stairs as the lift can be a bit rickety!
The Imperial War Museum North is excellent, making the history of Britain's wars real, thought-provoking and engaging.
