| - Let me start by saying that I am NOT a coffee drinker, and so I can't tell coffees or coffee terms apart for beans (no pun intended). Needless to say, after leaving this place, I felt like the dumbest person alive and am now frightened to ever enter another legit coffee shop.
I walked into Fortunes with a couple of friends and looked at the menu dumbfounded because I had no idea what I was reading. All I knew was that I had drunk a "macchiato" before and had enjoyed it. So I thought, "What the heck, I'll order a caramel macchiato." This is how the conversation went with the barista:
Me: Hi, I'd like a medium caramel macchiato.
Barista: So, you want to order OUR macchiato?
Me: Uhh...sure...?
Two minutes later I get a tiny cup with a meager amount of liquid in it. I turn around and look to my friends confusedly, wondering where I had went wrong. The barista notices this and gets my attention:
Barista: That's why I asked you whether you wanted OUR macchiato.
Me: Oh...ok...
The barista, clearly frustrated, takes my cup, pours it out and makes me a caramel latte.
Alright all you avid coffee drinkers, laugh all you want that I had no idea that there is a difference between a Caffè macchiato (espresso macchiato) and the American replicate (Latte Macchiato???). I'm not even sure if what I just said is correct.
For the drink I got, I can't complain about the price (Did I over- or underpay the actual price of a caramel latte?), especially given the prices at Starbucks these days. Also, given the fact that I made such a stupid mistake means that this place must be a good coffee shop. Beyond that, unfortunately, I can't make any judgment -- hence my modest rating. Perhaps when I start drinking more coffee, I'll re-examine this review and re-rate it.
