I've been to wine and design painting classes and pottery painting classes but never a pottery making wheel class. Needless to say, I was very excited. After a failed Groupon attempt with another pottery making company, my friend and I did a quick Google search of pottery wheel classes in the QC and Pottery Central popped up. We settled on them because of the $25 class that's 3 hours every other Sunday and you get to make 3 pieces. The company is located in an old house on Monroe Road. You walk in and are immediately in the working space. They have 12 pottery wheels and good news for the lefties, they have left handed wheels. After you grab an apron, you sit down at a wheel and Andrew walks you through how to prep your clay and the how you throw it and begin to shape it into your pottery design. Andrew and his team do a great job of assisting first time potters and they're very helpful and patient. After you make your first piece of pottery, you get to throw clay two more times and make 2 more pieces. So in all, you can end up with 3 pieces depending on how fast you work within the 2 hours. After you make your pottery, you leave it there and Andrew and his team finishes them with the rest of the firing and glazing process. Your finished products are done and ready for pick up in 2 to 3 weeks. The glaze that Andrew uses is beautiful and he mixes the glaze himself. He also recycles the unused clay, so nothing goes to waste. For $25 this was a good experience that you can't beat and you get 3 pieces of handmade potter you'll cherish forever.
