| - This was probably the strangest shopping experience I have ever encountered. The pharmacy at this specific store ordered food from the delivery service that I work for. I went into the store - not planning on browsing or shopping, just delivering their food, but the store was very neat and much cleaner than many CVS stores that I've been to, so I decided to take a look around while waiting for another delivery order to be assigned to me. I was looking in cosmetics and within one minute, the manager approached me and asked if I could be helped with anything; now this initial courtesy question is deemed the polite thing to do, and most times expected, so I politely tell the manager that I am just browsing but thank you.
A couple of minutes later, maybe two aisles away from where I started-- I feel the employees have been advised to follow me around the store. I feel that I should add that I do not, in anyway, look like someone doing something shady. I have not dodged them, i'm dressed professionally, and I'm not picking anything up. I find this strange and a little offputting, so now I'm almost just walking up and down the aisles waiting to not feel the pressure of eyes glued to my every move. I felt like I may get some relief when another customer starts raising her voice at the manager about a price tag being wrong, but I was BEYOND wrong. Not long after, a woman employee now approaches me and says to me "is there anything that we can help you find yet? Are you looking for anything in particular? Have you found ANYTHING that you like?" - with the most unamused/accusatory/suspicious/'we-think-you're-going-to-steal -- look plastered on her face, with her arms folded in front of her. At this point, not willing to repeat myself since she heard me the first time when I spoke to the manager, I unnecessarily felt the need to explain myself ..which I felt completely rude. But I explained I was dropping off food to the pharmacy, i'm a delivery driver, and I am just browsing while waiting to get another delivery. I'm not looking for anything specific, but thank you for asking. Her face turned from the above description to now the plain 'don't believe you' eyebrow raise. She then replies a long, slow shockingly rude "uhh...oookkkaayy thennn..??" I've never felt so uncomfortable in a store in my life.
She went to the cashier counter and I overheard her explaining why I was in the store. I could not believe it! After feeling embarrassed for no reason at all, The only thing I wanted to do was to leave that store.
As I walked out-- they all stared, I thanked them politely .. only to get followed out by the manager. He watched me get into my car--(he pretended to check some newspapers outside) and continued to watch me from inside the automatic glass doors, from when I got into my car all the way until I pulled out of the parking lot.
It's safe to say I will never be going back to that CVS, if any CVS ever again. I've never felt like such a criminal when doing nothing wrong.
Word to the wise-- do not shop here unless you know what you want; and where it is. The crime of browsing apparently has a punishment of public humiliation.
