  • Imagine my surprise when a long vacant storefront on College Street had a sign for a soon to be open coffee shop. I walked past it daily until the first week it was open, I had to pop in to see what their hours and prices were like. I was greeted with a friendly hello and a tentative idea of hours. So I grabbed my cup of coffee and went on my way. I'm going to be honest here, and say I frequent both locations of Darkhorse and on occasion The Common. I found that as much as I love them there was always something missing and I couldn't put my finger on it. Then one day a failed attempt at grabbing a seat at Darkhorse west lead me to seek out an alternative location that I could call my regular haunt. LIT happens to be kitty corner from my house which means it has a huge advantage. Laptop in hand I found ample plugs, good sized tables and comfortable chairs. ( and I've recently been informed more plugs are on their way) I instantly knew what was missing from the places I previously mentioned. Not only is the setup ideal for a freelancer like myself, they always play fantastic music. Meaning if you forget your headphones to block out coffeeshop noise, it often works in your favour. Aside from lots of individual tables, their huge communal table looks onto a blank wall which always has old movies/ shows playing. (this week is the 3 Stooges) . What makes LIT that extra bit more special is the fact that the staff is unbelievable, you can tell that the owners/management went that extra mile to make sure that they had the best staff in the city. I'm cannot speak more highly of LIT. The best thing to me is that they have drip coffee, so many coffees focus on just espresso, and for those of us who like their regular cuppa joe, it means a small sacrifice.Thankfully, I've had both their drip coffee and latte's I am grateful to know that the attention to detail and consistency of the cup of coffee is there every time. Regardless of how it is made. Kudos for getting the formula right, I have a huge amount of faith in this little coffeeshop. You should too!
