| - NOPE. Just plain ole NOPE. From lackadaisical customer service to a limited drink menu, the overall experience was a complete 180 from the vibrant colorful rainbow bagel I got to eat. A group of us was looking for a breakfast place within walking distance to Schenley Plaza before an event and agreed upon The Bagel Factory. Sadly, I wish I would have just walked across the street to the Starbucks instead of trying something different.
When we arrived the line was already out to the door and only two employees were visible (more appeared as the morning went on ... including one that thought blowing their nose in the food prep area was ok). My initial reaction was "really? on a Saturday morning, you're understaffed? this won't end well." Once we got to the register we asked for three different drinks before the cashier admitted to essentially not having over half of the handcrafted drinks menu due to a missed delivery, so my friend had to settle on a Diet Pepsi. She had the challah french toast with seasonal berries and sweet potato fries. I ordered brewed coffee and a BEC on the rainbow bagel. Heads up to my fellow coffee drinkers: it is served at a hellacious hot temperatures, so taste buds beware.
There was a good group of people waiting for food, so we sat at a table and waited. Her order came out first, nothing out of the ordinary and presentation was good. My order coming out was not as smooth, however, they didn't call the orders by name (which they asked for at the register) and someone else ended up taking my food to their table only to realize their mistake and putting it back on the counter. Now, I'm not usually a germophobe and I did eat it and not make a bid deal out of it, but seriously come on at least call out people's names if you have a big queue of people waiting for their food. As for the seasonal berries on my friend's french toast ... frozen berries should not be called seasonal, that defeats the marketing point behind the tag line-seasonal.
Maybe it was just a bad day? Maybe it was a perfect storm of little things going wrong? Long story short, I just don't see myself returning to the Bagel Factory.
