| - I have used 5th Ave Alterations twice in the past year. The most recent occasion was a couple weeks ago, when I took several pairs of men's dress pants in to be altered. It was fairly expensive, but overall the work was to my satisfaction, so it was worth it. Depending on the work, you may be asked to put down a deposit when you drop off your clothes. The pants were ready on the agreed upon date and they called me, as promised, to let me know when they were ready. I did have to go back a second time because there was a problem with one of the pairs of pants that I didn't see until after I got home, but they were very apologetic and promptly fixed it the same day I went back, so it was not a big deal to me.
Based on my experience, the quality of their work is good, albeit a little expensive, and I would go back again in the future for alterations. Figuratively speaking, I don't think you can put a price tag on a good tailor, which I would say they are, based on my two experiences.
I also suggest calling before stopping by to verify they are open. I don't think they're necessarily open every Saturday, since they're a "mom and pop" business. Also, they are actually open until 5:30 on weekdays (not 5:00 as Yelp suggests), which is helpful if you work 8-5.
