  • "Arizona's best rock gym", ha, don't make me laugh. FOCUS is the McDonald's of gym rock climbing, though this establishment isn't at all easy on the pocketbook like the greasy eatery I've called attention to. It's $18 to boulder here, and that doesn't even include gear rental. A coupon book was left at my apartment doorstep offering a free three-day pass to FOCUS Rock Gym. Upon presenting the coupon to the employee a the counter, I was informed that they could not honor the voucher's averment. Apparently, the coupon can only be redeemed students of ASU. The employee I spoke with was extremely rude and short with me. (Also, he was quite short in stature. I'm thinking he suffers from Little Man's Syndrome, and in attempt to make up for his vertically-challenged body he puts on a smart alecky and pompous attitude to create the illusion of being a bigger man. It's not working.) The rock gym itself was very small. If you're hoping to only climb 20 feet (on auto-belay), love wasting money, or if you are into bouldering above a chalk covered and sweaty student-infested mat, then maybe this is the place for you.
