  • In the quest for a perfect cupcake, your most promising stop in Cleveland will be Grandma Freda's. I don't know if there is actually a Grandma Freda that lives around here but if I ever meet her I will kiss her on the mouth and thank her for giving my cupcake craving a glimpse of hope. While not all of the cupcakes here are my cup of tea, the ones they do right are really delectable. The red velvet specifically is a beautiful creation that hits the lips and tongue like a french kiss from heaven. The flavor choices are constantly changing but my favorites so far are the Turtle and Pineapple Upside-down Cake (both of which I think are seasonal) but I always (and I mean ALWAYS) pick up an extra red velvet to bring home with me. Do yourself a favor and visit the Grandma Freda's stand at West Side Market. It's a great experience and these tasty cakes are are bargain. They are delicious and guaranteed to give you a delightful sugar high followed by a long nap - which I hope will one day be in the arms of Grandma Freda.
