| - This place is legit. I was turning 40 and looking for something new to try on my birthday. The closest I've ever come to going to a drive in was playing that fallout 3 expansion pack on xbox. This place is amazing. As soon as you see the screens off in the distance as you drive down W Bethany Home Road you get hit by a wave of nostalgia - even if you're like me and have never even really been to a drive in before. Like other reviewers have said, this place is in a rougher looking part of Glendale, but you'll be going at dusk and everything looks better at dusk, and everyone at the drive in, employees and other customers, seemed genuinely happy to be there and were so nice. They have really built something special here and I am very glad to support them. A couple of notes for newbies like me:
Don't expect a typical movie theatre experience. The people in the audience are going to talk more, kids are going to run around, cars are going to be starting up occasionally to keep their batteries alive or the AC flowing out the back door, and you're going to get blinded by somebody's headlights every once in a while. It's just part of the experience, and the price you pay to watch a movie under the stars. Totally worth it for me - roll with it.
Consider the weather when deciding to park head first or back toward the screen. It was pretty hot when we went. I backed in our SUV, popped open the back, and we got out the lawn chairs. This worked for about half of the first movie, but that pavement is HOT and was "burning our biscuits" well after sundown. We ended up lying in the cargo part of the SUV with the engine on and AC running for the rest of the show. Next time, I would park head first so we could take turns between the "comfy" seats and the lawn chairs outside.
This place has an AWESOME snack bar, and prices are reasonable. The line is huge but unlike a typical movie theatre, it actually moves really quickly due to how they have the place laid out. We brought snacks with us but next time I would just get food there.
If it is really hot out, consider bringing some kind of misting device and portable fan.
Bring a small flashlight or get a flashlight app on your phone to help you get to the snack bar and bathrooms in the dark. Just be careful not to shine it at people trying to enjoy the movie.
We're looking forward to our next trip here, and next time we will be better prepared to make it even more awesome.
