definition
  • NASDA launched the Japanese Marine Observation Satellite 1(MOS-1) on February 19, 1987. The MOS-1 carries three instruments on board, the MESSR (Multispectrum Electronic Self Scanning Radiometer), VTIR (Visible and Thermal Infrared Radiometer) and MSR (Microwave Scanning Radiometer). MOS-1 is Japan's first earth observation satellite which has a sun-synchronous and sub-recurrent orbit at a nominal altitude of 909 km and an inclination of 99 deg. The local mean time at descending node is 10:00-11:00 AM. MOS-1/b, which carries the same sensors as MOS-1 was launched on February 7, 1990 to provide continuous data to users. The following is a summary of MOS-1 and MOS-1/b.
