| - BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN BOOKING HERE. We purchased a "Just Pay Half" deal from WPXI to stay 1 night and be able to park during our vacation. As we had an early flight, it seemed ideal. When I called to make the reservation, it seemed almost too easy - he didn't even ask for a phone number. I was very concerned, so I called the next day (during a different shift) to ensure the reservation had been made. The person I talked to told me it was. I asked if he needed my phone number and he said something like "yeah, sure" so I gave it to him. The day before our trip, I called again to confirm. I was told that yes, our reservations were made. The next day we had dinner near the hotel and then arrived, I believe shortly after 6pm. the people in line ahead of me seemed to be having a problem with their reservation. They ended up needing another room than they had booked, so it took awhile. When I tried to check in, I gave the woman at the desk my Just Pay Half certificate, and she immediately handed it back to me and said that because I hadn't checked in before 5pm, they tried to run my credit card at that time, but it had been declined and they had given away our room. I told her I had called 3 times and never been told I needed to be there before 5. I also said that I was minutes away and if they had called I could have run right over and checked in. She said they called. I demanded to know what number they called and what credit card they ran, and she said she didn't have that information, that the person who called did, but they could upgrade us to another room. I asked what it would cost and she told me $25, so I asked to speak to the manager. She called someone and told me they would only charge us an additional $13. I was very upset, but accepted, because we needed to stay there. BTW, when she ran the SAME card that time, it wasn't declined. When we got to the room, there was only ONE king size bed. For 4 of us. I went back and explained that I wasn't happy with the room because of that and she said "I gave you our nicest room." I told her I didn't care, because we still had 4 people and only one bed. At this point, another group of people waiting in the lobby said "That is what happened to us! We had to get a second room!" I asked if they had shown up after 5 and had their card declined; they had. I asked if they had gotten a call or been told about this- they had not. I asked if they had used a coupon for their room and if their card worked find when charged for the second room - it had! I said to the woman at the desk "this is starting to look like a scam - TWO groups of people - and probably those people checking in ahead of me - who both had the cards declined and had to pay for a second room!" She immediately "found" me a room exactly like the one I had booked and hurried me out of there. The room was a smoking room and smelled awful. It was not clean. We were afraid to complain since we were leaving the car there for 7 nights. When my husband went to get our luggage from the car, he spoke to two other families checking in - both with the same problem: room "given away" at 5pm and then charged for an upgrade and/or a second room. What are the odds of that??
They did get us the shuttle on time and had free breakfast. The car was fine when we got back, however the charge for the "upgrade" we got was still on our credit card. I called them to complain and at first they claimed it was the taxes, and then said they would have the manager call me back, but of course, he didn't.
I fully believe this place uses the coupons/groupons/etc to get people in and then lies to get additional fees to make up for the coupon. I would never go back to this place again. It is extremely disappointing because it was such a wonderful idea, and we had told many people about what a great deal it was, even without the coupon, but seeing how they practice business, I could not in good conscience recommend them to anyone.
