  • I love living in Madison, especially because of the availability of dog parks. This one is completely fenced in and has a two-gate entrance system, so your dogs can't escape when someone else enters the park. We own a shiba inu, a notoriously smart and independent breed (that won't listen!), and belong to a group of shiba owners that meet up at different locations. We've chosen this park several times for a hangout spot because of its wide open field and off-leash security. The shibas enjoy playing with each other and the wide range of other dogs. The park is quite sizeable with only a few trees, includes some hilly areas but it's mostly flat, and has one or two doggie bag stations. There are some picnic tables so owners can take a seat and dogs can use them to climb on and play King of the Hill. Bring your travel bowl and water for breaks but be careful with treats as you might get mobbed! Even putting your hand innocently in your pocket can get you hounded. (Pun intended.) Plan to share your toys, too. There aren't too many naturally occurring toys, like sticks, due to the lack of trees, but having it open helps keep the land dry. It can get muddy in only a few spots. As always, be sure to wear your dog park clothes as excited dogs might jump up on you. There is no puppy area so only bring your well-socialized pup that's ready for high energy play, and don't bring smaller children in. (I personally don't think kids and dog parks are a good mix because it's the dogs' playground and children can easily get hurt.) This park isn't the closest to us so we generally go to the one at Token Creek, but it's one of our favorites in Madison.
