| - I'm a huge Cirque fan and I've been to handful of their shows (Quidam, Dralion, Ka, Corteo). I really don't think they can come up with a BAD show, their whole production method is too focused and they recruit some of the best creative minds.
That said, while Ka remains my absolute favorite show, Zarkana was still thoroughly enjoyable. It was my first time in Radio City and I was of course blown away by the sheer scale of the place. The show made excellent use of the space and actors seemed to be everywhere at the same time - creepin in through the wings of the stage, sliding down from above... there was always something or someone to look at. As for the acts themselves, there were some Cirque staples (wheel of death, cheerleading-on-steroids, trapeze etc) but some were new and intriguing. What I loved most was their attention to detail in the set and costumes. So gorgeous!
The music was alright - a little bit too rock-ish for my tastes. I still think Alegria and Ka had the best music. I also couldn't really understand the singers, even though I was mildly surprised that they were singing in English. The vocalists do have amazing, powerful voices though and they gave some great performances.
Overall, it was sheer pleasure to watch Zarkana and I think everyone, Cirque fan or not, should give it a shot. Its solid, mind blowing entertainment that makes you lose yourself in the fantasy world Cirque du Soleil is so good at creating.
