| - Coffee and coffee makers, all in one place!
It's about time I reported back on my first joint jaunt with the charming and delightful Emily "Not just an Annex girl" H. We met for coffee on my birthday weekend, late in the afternoon as could be expected after the Friday night I had had (see reviews 5 to 7 in this list, http://www.yelp.ca/list/epic-birthday-bender-toronto).
The first thing I have to talk about is the name of the place. It's there for a reason - these guys sell green (i.e. unroasted) coffee beans! They also offer freshly-roasted (on-site) coffee, ground or unground. They sell all the gear you'd need to take your coffee from green to black (if you want to roast your own beans), in all sorts of price ranges. They also have Bodum presses in a variety of designs and colours. The merchandise section takes up at least a third of the floor, and it's worth checking out if you are any sort of coffee lover. That said, if you're looking to buy, you'll probably want to know what you want ahead of time - when I went in for my Bodum, I felt like I was on my own.
Décor is OK, about as cozy as it can be for a café that sells coffee gear. It's new, clean and convenient. Seating seems just a bit limited though so don't come in thinking you're guaranteed a place to put Fanny while you meet Joe. It's a great location right on the southeast corner of Bloor and Bathurst, and the mid-afternoon sun streams in to bathe half the seating area (so you have the option of getting baked without the mandate).
My latte was nothing to write home about. Tasty, but ordinary. I've had way better in the area. Still, we were well-served and the coffee served its intended purpose - get us moving and in the mood for our next stop!
