  • OVERALL: The staff was kind & friendly, but Dr. Yu has no compassion, absolutely horrible bed-side manner, & doesn't care about actually listening to his patients. ------------------------------------------- These are a few of the less upsetting things that happened during my experience with him. I'll describe the most upsetting part after this list. - For the majority of my appointment he sat with his hand holding his head up on the patient table/bed with his eyes closed. - In the middle of me explaining my migraine pain he took a 5 minute phone call in front of me. After the call he gave no explanation or apology he just said are you going to continue? - He laughed & basically ignored me when I asked if my diet could be related to my increase in migraines. - He gave a treatment plan at the end of my appointment that actually had typed out "advised to have good control of type 2 diabetes".... I don't have diabetes & he never even mentioned diabetes. - He asked if I was stressed. When I told him I had a 1 & 3 year old so my life has its stressful moments, but I didn't feel overly stressed. He said I don't understand how what you are saying is stressful... I said well raising children has its stressful moments. He rolled his eyes and replied okayyyy. - When his assistant told him a medication he wanted to prescribe made my birth control less effective he said that didn't matter. I told him it mattered to me. He sighed & prescribed something else. ------------------------------------------- The most upsetting part of my experience had to do with medication & treating my migraines. I saw Dr. Yu for chronic migraines. I wanted to know if I was a candidate for Botox injections b/ I was unhappy with the amount of pills I was taking for my migraines & I thought it might be a healthier option. I'm 27 & I've had migraines since 14. It took me years to find a medication that helped me manage my migraine pain & I was happy with it until I started experiencing more 15 migraine days a month. During my appointment I told him all that. I told him all the medications I've tried and that I had what my PCD called dangerous side effects to a few of those migraine medications one was called Treximet. He told me I was a great candidate for Botox injections & he thought they would really help me, but I had to try all the medications he wanted me to try before he'd consider it. So ended up prescribing me an anti-depressant, Sumatriptan & Naproxen. I told him I was willing to try anything except anti-depressants b/ I was actually a very happy, energetic person when I didn't have migraines & also I tried anti-depressants several years ago & they made me feel horrible. I told him I didn't want to risk my happiness & energy for a drug that wasn't even for migraines. He told me if I wanted to eventually try the Botox injections I needed to take the antidepressants. At the end of my appointment I asked him if would prescribe me the medicine I had been taking that did help my migraines only if the new medication didn't work. He refused so I asked him if I it would be ok for me to call my PCD for it if this new medication didn't work. He told me if I did he would flag me at pharmacies for trying to get the same medicine from different doctors. He basically treated me like a drug addict. When I asked him what I should do for the pain if the new medicine work b/ almost every migraine medication I've tried did not help my pain he just shrugged & walked out of the room. I tried the sumatriptan & naproxen for 3 migraines. I had side effects very similar to Treximet. I should have been smarter & called the pharmacy after the first one, but after basically being called a drug addict I really wanted this new medicine to work. After loosing all the feeling in my hands I called the pharmacy. I was told to stop the medication immediately & call my doctor. I mentioned I had similar side effects to Treximet & he asked if I told the doctor that. I told him yes & he told me it was very bizarre I was prescribed naproxen & sumatriptan then b/ those are the 2 ingredients in Treximet. I immediately called Dr. Yu's office & left message. I didn't hear back for 4 days. By that time I had already talked to my PCD & decided to no longer be a patient at Dr. Yu's office. I never tried the anti-depressants b/ I asked the pharmacist about it & he told me there was no evidence it helped migraines & if I started taking it wouldn't be something I could just stop I would have to commit to taking it daily. I probably should have walked out the second this doctor took a 5 minute phone call in front of me, but I was trying so hard to be optimistic about him b/ I was desperate for help with my migraines. If you're in that situation & checking out this review seriously just get referred to someone else.
