I had a coupon from Travel Zoo for a hot stone massage, when I arrived I was told there was a cancellation for nail services and if I chose to receive a nail service it would be 50% off.
SERVICES:
Well I had the massage first. I cannot remember the woman's name but she was fabulous. Not only was it a warm stone massage but also a warm stone placement. Her technique was wonderful and I truly enjoyed the treatment. I have absolutely no complaint about that service.
Now to get to the point of why I left a 2-star rating is because of my nail service. I chose to get just a basic manicure because all I was looking for was to clean up my nails and cuticles. Well the girl (who I can't remember her name) was very sweet, a little shy, but I think she is very new to nails.
1. She only pushed back my cuticles did not use the cuticle clipper to remove the excess cuticles or even take off my hang nails around the nails.
2. The nail polish I wanted couldn't not open, not by her fault; but then when it was opened the nail polish was so thick the polish was coming out all wrong. So then I stopped her after 3 nails and told her I would find a new color.
3. When I had the new color and she was applying the polish, she never applied the polish all the way to the back of my nail. So there were tiny lines at the back of my nail with no polish. She also kept getting nail polish on my cuticles on one nail saying "you cuticle is just raised on that nail so it makes it difficult".. Isn't that why you are supposed to cut them off? At that point the polish application was done.
4. I looked at my nails and you could see a distinct difference between shiny "flat" nails and the shiny "bumpy" nails. This was even more a disappointment as the new polish wasn't thick nor had chunks in it. I went to my locker to change and didn't want to say anything at the front as I felt bad she was sweet and probably new at this.
5. By the time my hands were dry I looked at my nails and my cuticles (that were not taken off) were SO dry and practically cracking. It was by far the worst manicure I have ever had.
6. By the next day I had chips (and this was an OPI color so they typically don't chip for 1 week).
AMBIANCE: The place is small, its not a major resort spa so the amenities are limited, there is a shower and lockers with robes and slippers. There is a relaxation area/waiting area but there aren't any lounge chairs which makes it hard to relax. Other than that it was a typical mom and pop feel to the ambiance and amenities.
All in all, I know the massage was wonderful so I would give the place another try but I don't think I would give them another shot at a nail service.
