My HVAC unit was not blowing hot air, i received the phone number for A-Tech from my local neighborhood message forum and looked them up here on Yelp to verify the reviews. Made the appointment and the gentleman was nice enough on the phone. The next day the technician was on time and i showed him the unit and was diagnosed in about 5-10 minutes. A bad igniter was the diagnosis and he went to his truck to find the part. In that time i managed to price an igniter ($20-40) and watch a YouTube video (6 minutes) on how to change the unit. He returned to tell me the price for the unit and installation was $210, where i quickly grabbed it from his hand to make sure it was what i just priced out online (yes it was). I have already called the tech out to diagnose it and im freezing so i was in a position to pay the amount. Was it outrageous? Some may say no, some may say that over $150/hr for a service call that lasted less than 30 minutes might be. For me knowing how simple it was to diagnose the problem (quick) and change the unit with a single plug and 1 screw (5 minutes?) id say its a bit excessive. Id say a total of $120-150 would have been more reasonable making the labor $80-$120/hr if it was a minimum 1 hour charge for the service.
