| - Zipcar Canada SUCKS.
My two recent experience with zipcar.
1. I drove to Pearson Airport to pick up visiting families. When on the highway, a tire blew up, that's right not punctured but blew up while I was driving at 100mph. I smelt rubber and saw a big chunk of black rubber flew over my windscreen. I survived but scared enough to not go behind driving wheels for 6 months.
2. the handbrake was broken and I had to be moved to the a second location only to discover the second car was not there. The driver was late in returning the car, but I was told the car was parked on the street behind the garage. I went out on the street, and guess what, no trace of the car. I felt like a complete fool not mention a huge waste of time. After this drama is over, I was eager to move on only to discover I could not get out of the parking garage because the zipcard censor did not work. I had to pull out my credit card to pay $30 in parking fees. Then, I discovered I was charged the full amount for the first reservation (with faulty handbrake) AND a cancellation charge!
On both occasions, the call Center wasn't exactly helpful, really depends on the individuals you speak to. I got slapped huge fees for cancellation, and had to call up to relive my haunting experience to get them to cancel the charges.
I had used zipcar in the US in several cities over the last couple of years. Never had any trouble, except the occasional late returns. I feel that zipcar just does not service its fleet of cars as often as it should in Canada. This is not just a matter of customer satisfaction, but about putting the customers' lives at risk for driving dangerous cars in high speed. Shame on you, zipcar!
On top of that, their hourly rates are really steep, which is I have switched to daily rental cars.
