Where else but Uptown could you get huge homemade biscotti for $2 and Hungarian-language lessons for free? I noticed that the sugar container said "Sugar", and also "Azucar" (Spanish), and... "Cukar". I asked if that was Turkish. No, said the cute guy behind the counter, that's Hungarian. (Turkish would have been "seker", I learned later.)
I know only one phrase in Hungarian, I said: "Halvány fogalmam sincs". He smiled and said it in English: "I have no idea." A useful phrase to know, he agreed.
The coffee drinks here are simple but good. The names are fanciful; espresso with milk and a Torani shot is an "Elizabethan". Dunking your biscotti into a good coffee, however, is an Uptown pleasure that will cost you surprisingly little -- and the sidewalk tables are a great way to add some Mt. Lebanon ambience.
