I remembered binks in midtown has long been on my radar of places I have been wanting to try. when we walked in I asked someone who was standing at the bar if we could sit outside- they were accommodating and said we could sit wherever we would like.
We ordered the cheese plate and green chile garlic fritters to start. Obviously one of the better cheese plates that can be had in the area. Portion was perfect for two people- we asked for additional crostini And they promptly brought some out for us. The Dijon tasted fresh not bottled- and the jam was great with the three cheese selection.
Green chile fritters had an awesome texture. Think hush puppy but much classier- slightly like a donut with crispy exterior fluffy interior but the flavor of bacon, a hint of heat and the tomato jam served with it gave such a unique flavor. We loved it.
We were delighted to receive some drop biscuits with apple butter to accompany our double appetizer start.
Bf had the bolognese- after our server, Brett helped him narrow down his entree options. Amazing meat sauce. Polenta had a perfect creamy and not too grainy or coarse texture .
Unlike other reviews- I rather enjoyed the flat iron steak. To each their own. Cooked to a perfect medium I loved crunching up the crispy onions and sweeping them in the mushroom vinaigrette with the perfectly sliced fingerling potato. I've never had mushrooms in a vinaigrette, it's usually a typical cream sauce so I really dug that.
We are 4 course diners by habit, so we both had an espresso and just had to try the chocolate puddin cake for dessert. I DIED. Truly rich as we were kindly informed and unforgettable in taste and texture. The graham cracker was salty and crunchy while the pudding was so chocolatey almost like un- set fudge and then you get a soft pillowy swirl of the marshmallow- uggghh so good.
Our server was super great and we were happy with our experience!
