Not a fan, not a fan, not at all. I will stop at urgent care only when I can't shake a cold/sore throat or flu like symptoms. I would rather go to my PCP but unfortunately he is rather far away (I kept the same doctor from when I was in college because I like him) and the process for appointments and times are never convenient.
Urgent care centers are kind of a joke. I almost always know they will just give me an anti-biotic without even doing a test and send me on my way, not before vastly overcharging me for their 10 second visit that could have been with the janitor. In the past they told me they require a credit card to be held in case there is a balance. So I gave one and without notice they charged it $100.00. I called and was told that they ask for the card because "people don't pay medical bills." I have insurance, and it still cost that much. She did inform me that I do not have to provide a card if I don't want to. So fast forward to this past visit, the receptionist called me up to the front. Standard questions before being reseated to wait for a "doctor". My insurance requires zero co-pay, but she says I need a card. I adamantly refuse telling her I don't have a co-pay and to send the bill to insurance to be adjusted then if there is a balance bill me in the mail like any other office. She doesn't seem to like my answer, though in her situation she should know this is how this is taken care of. She continues to say well you have to give a card afterwards if there is a balance. I looked oddly at her. Yea ok lady, quit trying to strong arm my credit card out of my purse. Follow protocol!
Needless to say, they bill me over $200.00 for their 5 minutes review of my health. It's a joke. Good in theory, terrible in practice.
