| - I've read a few of the other reviews so I want to give the short version of this review up-front:
1.(most important) Dr. Kramer was respectful, up-front and down-to-Earth during the consult and did an excellent job on my wisdom tooth extraction.
2.(not nearly AS important) Multiple, but not all, of the receptionists at this place were condescending, rude and not that helpful.
So having said that here are the details of my experience at the Center For Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery's Downtown location:
I was referred here by my dentist for wisdom tooth removal and I'm pretty sure this is one of the few oral surgeons that works with Momentum insurance. For the consult I arrived and met with Dr. Kramer. He was straightforward with me about my options and his recommendations. I felt like multiple option were presented to me as well as the rationale behind them AND I was not pressured into doing anything in particular. I decided to have both of the recommended teeth removed and went to set up a date with the receptionist.
She was another story. She immediately told me that she did not think that my insurance would cover the procedure but she would check anyway. We set up an appointment for surgery and she said I would get a call in a few weeks to explain what it would cost me.
I waited until 5 days until surgery and then I decided to call the office back. It turned out they STILL did not know what my insurance would cover. After pestering them they did give me a call back and I learned that my insurance WOULD cover over half of the procedure. I felt like I should not have had to be the one making the call to find this information out. In addition, after telling me about what I would owe, they then gave me the pre-surgery instructions. I felt that had I not called they would have forgotten to call me back with either the insurance information or the pre surgery instructions.
Flash forward to surgery day, the procedure went forward without a hitch. Dr. Kramer was very polite and did a wonderful job. In addition they made sure to explain everything to my husband (who had to wait for me in the lobby) and gave us an instruction sheet to take home.
I think they should really work of their PR skills as people (including myself) get nervous about having a surgical procedure performed and also anxious about costs. It helps to trust in the practice if the reception staff is empathetic, professional and polite, something that this place needs to improve. As far as the MOST important part, the surgery, is was done well and I would definitely recommend this place based on that.
