"FOUND PET DON'T DO ANYTHING! FOUND PET DON'T DO NUTHIN!"
This is what the technician was running into the back yelling moments after we brought in a poor cat wrapped in one of our towels this morning -- she was run over by a car that my wife stumbled upon while jogging.
However, what the technician didn't know (and didn't seem to care was):
1. We called and spoke with someone else while we were on the way, and explained the situation:
* The cat was wearing tags with the owner's number, who we called.
* The owner *requested* we take this cat to this vet as the cat was one of their patients.
* The owner was racing to the vet themselves.
This person then walked back to the front desk, rolling her eyes, smugly assured that she prevented, I dunno, a terribly injured cat from getting help I guess. From my perspective her behavior revealed the true policies (and therefore the values) of this animal hospital.
The owner texted my wife to say the cat didn't survive.
